To funky covers by LCD Soundsystem to smooth pop tracks by Robyn, the first week of November has not disappointed.
(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang by LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem covers Heaven 17s "(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang, with a sleek sound that does justice to the original. The track has an erratic intro, but it grabs the audiences attention by placing Nancy Whang on lead vocals. The cover serves as a throwback to LCD Soundsystem's more dance-punk oriented tracks of the mid-2000s. For those who enjoy the band and indie dance music, the track is a recommended listen.
Death in Midsummer by Deerhunter
Unfortunately former bass guitarist Josh Fauver passed on November 2nd, three days after the release of "Death in Midsummer".The track has a melodic groove that find introspective lyrics at the center of attention. Mixing religious imagery with politics finds Deerhunter treading on territory that discusses the current state of world affairs. For those who enjoyed Fauvers contributions on Microcastle, Weird Era and Halcyon Digest, "Death in Midsummer" is sure to instill images of when the band was at its prime.
Tried by BADBADNOTGOOD & Little Dragon
Little Dragon has certainly been keeping busy in late October. From releasing singles to collaborating with Jazz-hip group, BADBADNOTGOOD, they definitely keep coming back with more material. "Tried" is a soulful track that finds Yukimi Nagano taking the lead and displaying a somber yet powerful performance. From whispery vocals to high notes, Yukimi stands as a driving force of power behind the track
Ever Again by Robyn
"Ever Again" is a summer beach bop that has the distinct features of sunny day. From Robyn's 2018 album, Honey, "Ever Again" serves as the albums closer. From speaking about comfortability and authenticity, the track grabs attention from its groovy production. For those who find themselves wishing for sunnier days, "Ever Again" might fulfill that feeling.
Lover Chanting by Little Dragon
Little Dragon comes back with dance-pop track, "Lover Chanting". The track has a danceable groove that finds the band riding on current production trends that compliment their aesthetic quite well. Personally, I prefer "Tried", but for those who enjoy more poppy tracks, "Lover Chanting" still has an unquestionable funk to it.
Fetti by Freddie Gibbs, Curren$y, and The Alchemist
Freddie Gibbs returns for a surprise collaboration with Curren$y, backed by the production of The Alchemist. Released on Halloween, the project hints towards the current state of the artists and their progression within their craft. Backed by The Alchemists production, those who enjoy old soul and R&B samples, they should give Fetti a listen.
Cleaner Air by Yeek
With simple guitar distortion with a driving beat, Yeek comes through with his fifth single of 2018. The set of singles Yeek has dropped hints towards a project hopefully to be released soon in the future. For those who enjoyed Sebastian and tracks like "Shake", Yeek's new single might serve as your current ear-worm.
